What to bring with you on a trail
Skill and Stamina
All the trails have been rated from 1-10 concerning the skill and stamina needed to comfortably complete them. It's hard to be objective about such matters but in general, levels 1-3 refer to occasional weekend cyclists, 4-7 people who regularly go cycling for two or three hours at a time, whilst levels 7 and above refer to serious cyclists going out for long rides two or three times a week. Do bear in mind that although the initial long hall is avoided on our rides, there will be plenty of exercise - if you would like a really easy ride we would recommend the "Tail water" loops.
Eating
The normal set up is to bring a picnic snack for a halfway break and then take a (Usually late) lunch in a bar/restaurant at the end of the trail. After this you can relax and nearly always swim before picking up your respective cars. (a few trails involve some cycling after lunch as well)
Those wishing to picnic instead are welcome to do so and can join us after lunch for a coffee if they wish. Nearly always there will be the options of either a light snack, sandwich/roll or a more substantial meal to suit a variety of tastes and budgets.
Cooling Off
In the summer it obviously gets very hot in Umbria (for this reason we try to start our trails relatively early, but in the mountains where our trails start the air is much fresher making our trails an ideal activity even in the summer. Trails usually have plenty of shade and we've tried to make sure that most of the hard cycling is over before it gets too hot - coasting down a mountain spur is actually a great way to cool off! There are also plenty of streams, rock pools and lakes on our trails where you can take a refreshing paddle or splash.
The pristine rock pools on the waterfall and sasso trails are particularly special (at Sasso they even have a couple of little wooden changing rooms) and practically all the other end end points have a Bar/restaurant with a pool that you can use so remember to bring your costume!

Far from the madding crowds - finding your own space
Whilst not wishing to sound too "new age" I did want to reassure you about the nature of our trails. When on a trail participants are free to spread out in groups or singles according to how it suits them. The CMI representitive will only offer advice or information where asked and will simply lead the way letting you follow at your own pace.
Wherever you need to turn off the main trail (or navigate some difficult terrain) our representitive will stop and show you the way. You simply stick to the main trail unless shown other wise. (Those who feel more comfortable cycling close to the CMI representitive are of course welcome to do so)
