Eco tourism in the wildest and most unspoiled Country side you can imagine
We offer a wide range of magnificent off-road cycling trails in central Italy (Tuscany, Umbria and Le Marche) By starting high up in the hills and finishing down in the valleys you get to see the most amazing scenery without having to endure long exhausting ascents. Trails are accompanied by a Cycle middle italy representative who will show you the way. For the lunch stops we have chosen beautiful places where you can eat, rest and (Usually) swim. At the end of the trail we offer free transportation back to the start in order to pick up your car. Bike hire and transportation can be organized when needed.
Discover another Umbria
Most tourists only get to see a fraction of what Umbria has to offer - the Tiber valley (Assisi, Perugia, Città di Castello, Spoleto etc.) and Lake Trasimeno make up only 10% of the area of Umbria and yet most tourists get to see little else! (This "10%" also comprises most of Umbria's population and industry) Until now, much of the other 90% has remained inaccessible to all but the most fanatical of hikers or horse riders. The vast network of amazingly beautiful tracks and trails crossing the territory are mostly too rough for motor vehicles and too remote to walk to. Cycling would seem the perfect way to experience these wildernesses but until now that would mean long and exhausting ascents which are difficult at the best of times and all but impossible in the hotter months.
The aim of cycle middle Italy is to take sensitive tourists into these areas by driving up to the highest spots and then descending slowly along ridges and spurs into the (often uninhabited) valleys below. Ridges are never completely flat and so for some of the rides you'll need a reasonable level of fitness (The Montone ridge trails are some of the more strenuous whilst the Tail water and Santa Maria trails are much easier - see our skills and stamina guide) but what you will avoid is the agonizing main ascent. All the trails (apart from the circular ones of course) are in an overall descent - typically a 350/450 m descent over 20-30 km. Up hills will always be relatively short (A "hard ascent" might involve up to 10 mins strenuous cycling) and will always be followed by refreshing downhills or comfortable "flats".
